Around 4:30pm Saturday, the Ossining Fire Department was called to the area of South Highland Avenue and Lincoln Place where a car crashed into a multi-family dwelling and burst into flames.
OFD units arrived and transmitted the “10-75” for a working fire, bringing the Croton FD to the scene as a FASTeam. Prior to taking this assignment our personnel were reassigned to fire suppression and another FASTeam from Thornwood was dispatched.
Due to the impact of the car hitting this building, members had to operate within the compromised structure, ascending a heavily damaged staircase and using portable ladders to access the upper floors.
A dozen of Croton’s Bravest were on scene with Engine 118 and Utility 14, working with the OFD and a crew from Millwood FD to extinguish the blaze. CFD personnel are also credited with locating cats in one of the affected apartments and getting them to their owners.
Following the fire attack operation, members of the Westchester County Technical Rescue Team (which included additional CFD members) and “Squad 36” - a Technical Rescue Team consisting of Fairview, Greenville, Hartsdale & Scarsdale FDs arrived to shore up the building.
Croton members operated for 90 minutes before returning to our district.
