The Fourth of July Weekend kept the CFD busy this year, with our volunteers taking in eight incidents Friday through Sunday, including a Mutual Aid Garage Fire, a Dumpster Fire, a Vehicle Fire and an Electrical Fire. Here's a recap of our incidents.

FRIDAY
Car 2083, Engine 119, Engine 120, Rescue 18 & Utility 14 responded to a minor motor-vehicle collison on southbound Route 9 around 9:30 AM. One passenger was checked by EMS and declined further treatment and all units returned to service about 20 minutes later.

Just before 10PM, Croton Police were notified that either fireworks or a distress flare was seen from a boat near Discovery Cove. After checking the area for a while, they requested our assistance to confirm the situation. 2083, Rescue 18, Utility 14, Utility 208 and Marine 32 along with a Westchester County Police, Ossining Police/EMS, Verplanck FD and Haverstraw FD boats confirmed no issues and all units cleared a short while later.

SATURDAY
At 5:50 AM we began our Holiday with a residential alarm investigation on Wells Avenue. Car 2081, Car 2083, Engine 118 & Tower Ladder 44 checked the residence with no emergency findings.

At 3:25 PM, our Tanker 10 was dispatched to a possible garbage disposal unit on fire in the Millwood Fire District. Millwood units arrived on scene and found no active fire and put T10 - as well as 2083 - back into service.

Around 9:40 PM, our FASTeam was dispatched to a well-involved garage fire on Campwoods Road in the Village of Ossining. Turning out for this assignment were Car 2081, Engine 119 and Utility 14. OFD's Bravest had difficulty snuffing out the flames due to the combination of a hoarder's situation with materials packed in the building wall to wall as well as structural compromise from fire damage. Members would assist with opening up and seeking out hidden flames for a while before returning to service about 90 minutes later.

Lastly, at 11:15 PM, we were alerted to a dumpster fire in the Scenic Ridge Townhouses on the north end of the Village. Engine 119 arrived and confirmed a dumpster fire and stretched their 1 3/4" trash line to extinguish same. Personnel from Utility 14 checked other dumpsters nearby to ensure no other fires were found. Units cleared up within 30 minutes. 2081, 2083, E119, T10, R18 & U14 on this assignment.

SUNDAY
At 4:50 AM a Full Department Response along with a FASTeam from Ossining FD and Tankers from Millwood and Yorktown FD were dispatched to a reported motor-vehicle fire next to a house on Mount Airy Road East. Car 2082 arrived minutes later reporting no active fire and held only Engine 118 and Tanker 10 - cancelling the remainder of Croton and Mutual Aid units. The owners were able to keep the fire from spreading and contained it prior to our arrival. Using a 1 3/4" hose line from tanker 10, members from both E118 & T10 soaked down the vehicle to ensure no re-ignition occurred. 2081 and 2083 were also on scene.

Another "Tanker Box" was dispatched to a different Mount Airy Road East home at 2:25 PM for the report of smoke in the attic. Like the earlier incident a Full Department Response from Croton, as well as the FASTeam from Ossining and Tankers from Millwood and Yorktown were dispatched. Car 2082 arrived first and reported an odor of electrical burning and haze of smoke in the attic, and cancelled the Mutual Aid units. Members of the CFD conducted an investigation and found faulty wiring in an Air Conditioning control panel as the cause. The units were isolated and the house checked for any other issues / extension with negative findings. All CFD units cleared about an hour later. 2082, 2083, E118, E119, E120, TL44, T10, R18 were on scene.
