December 21, 2016

Shortly after 4PM on Wednesday, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was called Mutual Aid to our neighbors to the south - the Ossining Fire Department - for a working structure fire. The OFD arrived at the Kemey's Cove Condos to find fire in one unit, spreading into the cockloft and eventually through the roof. Responding to the request was Car 2082 (A/C Colombo) with Engine 119.

Ossining firefighters, under the command of Chief Matt Scarduzio, had several hose lines in use inside and both of their Truck Companies up and working on the roof. Our crew staged on the exterior and remained on scene for about two hours. Assisting the OFD on scene was an Engine Company from Millwood FD and the Rescue Company from Briarcliff Manor to provide cascade services.

While operating at this box, remaining Croton FD units were dispatched to smoke in a house on Woodybrook Lane in Cortlandt. Due to this location being in an area with little or no fire hydrants, Tankers were automatically dispatched from the Millwood and Yorktown Heights Fire Departments. Also dispatched was an Engine Company from the Montrose VA Fire Department to fill out the 3rd Engine assignment, with E119 working in Ossining. This incident was caused by a malfunctioning oil burner, which created a smoke and Carbon Monoxide condition in the home, which was mitigated by Croton's Bravest.

Our thanks to all of our Mutual Aid companies for the quick response.
