November 7, 2016

At about 7AM Monday, Croton Fire, Croton EMS, Croton Police and the Paramedic Fly-Car from Ossining EMS were dispatched to southbound Route 9, north of Senasqua Road, for a motor-vehicle accident with reported entrapment, and the vehicle left the roadway and went down an embankment.

On the dispatch assignment from the CFD was E119, E120, R18 & U14. The first-arriving CFD unit was Engine 119, just moments behind CEMS 55B2. They reported a single-vehicle accident, with one car 150 feet down a hill, and their officer (D/C J. Munson, Car 2089) would be establishing Route 9 Command. Crew members from E119 (including D/C P. Dinkler) made access to the vehicle while others remained on the roadway.

As the crew members of E119 were getting together some rope equipment to access the vehicle and patient, CPD officers had already made their way to the vehicle, and found the driver outside of the vehicle bleeding from the head. They then walked the patient back to the roadway above to awaiting EMS, who promptly transported him to Westchester Medical Center with the Paramedic, notifying them of the Level 1 Trauma.

Command held E119, Rescue 18 and Utility 14 while A&P Towing worked to remove the vehicle. E120 was cancelled enroute and kept available for any additional calls in the district. Car 2083 (A/C Pesavento) arrived about one hour into the incident, and 2089 transferred command to him for the duration.

Units cleared the scene about 2 1/2 hours later. Our hats off to A&P Towing for a great job with a rather unusual vehicle recovery.

Nearly 20 of Croton's Bravest answered the call, with personnel from all five companies assisting.

Units: 2083, 2089, E119, E120, R18, U14, CEMS 55B2, OVAC 36M1
