By CFD Reporting Team
October 1, 2016

The month of September was the third month in a row where our volunteers answered more than 40 calls for assistance, with a final tally of 42 incidents. This makes September the third busiest month of 2016 for us - so far - and taking our total number of responses in 2016 up to 314.

September saw some of this year's most notable incidents for the CFD - including three Mutual Aid Brush Fire responses with Tanker 10, a relocate of Engine 118 to Yorktown Heights FD while they operated at a technical rescue, a large propane tank leak on Teatown Road and two serious Motor-Vehicle Collisions - including one fatal event.

In addition to the above, our volunteers also answered four additional gas leaks, 18 fire alarm activations and 12 other responses. Car 2082 (First Assistant Chief Colombo) was our busiest Chief with 22 calls answered, and Engine 119 (Washington Engine) was the busiest apparatus, turning out 25 times for the month.

In addition to the busy month answering alarms, the membership kept busy with other happenings "off the fireground." Our annual Inspection was held on the 18th, which was well-attended by not only our men and women, but many visitors as well. Tower Ladder 44 took home the Chiefs' Award for Best Appearing Apparatus this year.

On the 10th, members were out conducting our first "Fill the Boot" fundraiser, to help us celebrate our 125th anniversary of 100% VOLUNTEER service to the Croton Community next year. For those of you that missed us, we will be out again this upcoming Saturday, October 8th. Check our website and our Facebook page for more information on this event!

Also, several members of our department participated in the "Tunnel to Towers Run" on September 25th. Photos and info can be found on our website, or in the link below. These guys, along with other teammates from area departments, raised well over $3,000 for this cause this year - great job, guys!

Despite the never-ending and always amazing dedication of our membership, we could always use new members to help us answer the call! We are actively seeking new men and women to join the ranks of one of Westchester County's older and most dependable organizations - us - the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. For more information go to the "How to Join" tab at the top of our webpage for information on how to become one of "Croton's Bravest!"

Be sure to follow us on Facebook as well - where we post updates, news stories, photos and more on a nearly daily basis! Go to www.crotonfd.org/crotonfire and "Like" us!
